Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). What feels impossible currently in your life? Peace in the world? A renewed love of Christ in the Eucharist? Something a little more personal such as financial stability, remaining healthy, or harmony in the family. The impossible is overcome by the grace of God. Grace is mystical and, at times, mystifying to our human understanding but can be simplified at its core to the undeserved yet freely given gift of God’s own Spirit within us.
Grace is as necessary in our lives as air, food, and water. “Since it belongs to the supernatural order, grace escapes our experience and cannot be known except by faith” (CCC 2005).
With His grace, we can accomplish the impossible, even if that is merely restoring peace within our hearts when facing situations beyond our control. God is generous, not expecting us to succeed independently but providing the same power, the fuel for navigating every aspect of life. The power of the Holy Spirit dwells within us—his very own power, acting and animating within us so we can experience Jesus’ teaching in our own lives—with God, truly all things are possible.
Today, in the Church, we celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. First instituted in 1954 by Pope Pius XII, it related to Jesus, her Son, as King and the dogma of Mary as “Mother of God.” In his encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, the Pope proclaimed, “We are instituting a feast so that all may recognize more clearly and venerate more devoutly the merciful and maternal sway of the Mother of God.” She, full of grace and the first to believe and experience the infinite power or possibilities of God, loves us and is our greatest intercessor.
In Davidic times, we see the unique duties and privileges that came with the position of Queen Mother, a trusted advisor and to whom subjects would go to see favor with the King. Our generous God offers this incredible Queen and goes even further, bestowing her as our Mother. From the cross, when every word pained our Savior to breathe forth, he announced, “Behold, your mother” (John 19:27), bestowing us grace upon grace. Indeed, nothing is impossible for God.
Jesús los miró y dijo: “Para los hombres esto es imposible, pero para Dios todo es posible” (Mateo 19,26). ¿Qué se siente imposible actualmente en tu vida? ¿Paz en el mundo? ¿Un amor renovado para Cristo en la Eucaristía? Algo un poco más personal como la estabilidad financiera, mantenerse saludable o la armonía en la familia. Lo imposible es vencido por la gracia de Dios. La gracia es mística y, a veces, desconcertante para nuestro entendimiento humano, pero simplemente dicho es el don inmerecido pero dado gratuitamente del propio Espíritu de Dios dentro de nosotros.
La gracia es tan necesaria en nuestras vidas como el aire, la comida y el agua. “La gracia, siendo de orden sobrenatural, escapa a nuestra experiencia y sólo puede ser conocida por la fe. ” (CIC 2005). Con Su gracia, podemos lograr lo imposible, incluso si eso es simplemente restaurar la paz dentro de nuestros corazones cuando enfrentamos situaciones fuera de nuestro control. Dios es generoso, no espera que tengamos éxito de forma independiente, sino que nos brinda el mismo poder, el combustible para navegar en todos los aspectos de la vida. El poder del Espíritu Santo habita dentro de nosotros—su propio poder, actuando y animando dentro de nosotros para que podamos experimentar la enseñanza de Jesús en nuestras propias vidas—con Dios, verdaderamente todo es posible.
Hoy, en la Iglesia, celebramos la Memoria de Nuestra Señora María Reina. Instituido por primera vez en 1954 por el Papa Pío XII, se relaciona con Jesús, su Hijo, como Rey y el dogma de María como “Madre de Dios”. En su encíclica Ad Caeli Reginam, el Papa proclamó: “Estamos instituyendo una fiesta para que todos puedan reconocer más claramente y venerar con más devoción el influjo misericordioso y maternal de la Madre de Dios”. Ella, llena de gracia y la primera en creer y experimentar el poder infinito o las posibilidades de Dios, nos ama y es nuestra mayor intercesora.
En los tiempos davidicos, vemos los deberes y privilegios únicos que venían con la posición de Reina Madre, una consejera de confianza y a quien los súbditos acudirían para ver el favor del Rey. Nuestro Dios generoso ofrece a esta Reina increíble y va más allá, entregándola como Madre nuestra. Desde la cruz, cuando cada palabra le dolía a nuestro Salvador al exhalar, anunció: “Aquí tienes a tu madre” (Juan 19,27), otorgándonos gracia sobre gracia. De hecho, nada es imposible para Dios.
