Today, Matthew 7 gives us the opportunity to once again think and act on the “golden rule”. I would dare say that a great percentage of you reading this could tell me what the golden rule is. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” All of us probably heard this one way or another in early grade school. It could help a child in building virtue. They know well what it feels like to receive kindness, gentleness, fairness, honesty, and all the other traits that make them glad they are alive and well. Doing the opposite is very damaging to a child.
However, Jesus in today’s verses is talking to adults. After hearing the golden rule at a young age can we honestly tell ourselves that it has been part of us our whole lives? In today’s world I would say there are plenty of people that are not living it out. I am sure that all of us have been in a store where we were “lucky” enough to get a cranky salesperson. Maybe we never went back to that store again. Why was that person yelling at us when we didn’t do anything? That’s easy enough. Something in that person’s life was dragging them down, big time. Any chance we could somehow do something that would lift that person up with our God-given gifts? Can we try? You may think, “But I don’t know what to say!” That is a human response. How about a spiritual response? Do we think that God loves us enough to give us a few words of encouragement for that person? Ask your dear Lord, and he will.
I spent most of my life on the phone while at work. One day, I was on hold with a pump company in Washington state. The person I needed to talk to was rather long winded and the lady on the phone would come back and check on me several times. I began to notice something in her voice that seemed like sadness. I asked her if she was ok? She started crying. She shared with me some of her troubles and the Lord allowed me to help her. Then she said, “Wait a minute, I don’t even know you!” I assured her it was OK and we would probably never talk again, but I hoped I had helped her. Soon after that I was able to connect with the person that I called for. That is not something that I was trained for. It was totally the Holy Spirit!
Trust me, if one opens their heart to be an ambassador for the Lord He will give you what you need!
We are now halfway through the year. It might be a good time to ask the Lord what he wants you to do. Then, get ready! You may have to ask him to shorten the list.

Hoy, Mateo 7 nos da la oportunidad de volver a pensar y actuar sobre la “Regla de Oro”. Me atrevería a decir que un gran porcentaje de los que leen esto podrían decirme cuál es la regla de oro. “Que en todo traten ustedes a los demás tal y como quieren que ellos los traten a ustedes”. Todos nosotros probablemente escuchamos esto de una forma u otra en la escuela primaria. Podría ayudar a un niño en la construcción de la virtud. Saben bien lo que se siente al recibir amabilidad, gentileza, justicia, honestidad y todos los demás rasgos que los hacen felices de estar vivos y con bienestar. Hacer lo contrario es muy dañino para un niño.
Sin embargo, Jesús en los versículos de hoy está hablando a los adultos. Después de escuchar la regla de oro a una edad temprana, ¿podemos decir honestamente que ha sido parte de nosotros toda nuestra vida? En el mundo de hoy, diría que hay muchas personas que no lo están viviendo. Estoy seguro de que todos nosotros hemos estado en una tienda en la que tuvimos la “suerte” de interactuar con un vendedor malhumorado. Tal vez nunca más volvamos a esa tienda. ¿Por qué esa persona nos gritaba cuando no hicimos nada? Eso es bastante fácil. Algo en la vida de esa persona los estaba arrastrando hacia abajo, a lo grande. ¿Hay alguna posibilidad de que podamos hacer algo que levante a esa persona con los dones que Dios nos ha dado? ¿Podemos intentarlo? Puedes pensar: “¡Pero no sé qué decir!”. Esa es una respuesta humana. ¿Qué tal una respuesta espiritual? ¿Creemos que Dios nos ama lo suficiente como para darnos unas palabras de aliento para esa persona? Pídele a tu amado Señor, y lo hará.
Pasé la mayor parte de mi vida en el teléfono mientras estaba en el trabajo. Un día, estaba en el teléfono esperando hablar con alguien de una compañía de bombas en el estado de Washington. La persona con la que necesitaba hablar se demoró bastante y la recepcionista regresaba de vez en cuando para ver como estaba. Empecé a notar algo en su voz que parecía tristeza. Le pregunté si estaba bien y comenzó a llorar. Compartió conmigo algunos de sus problemas y el Señor me permitió ayudarla. Luego dijo: “¡Espérame un momento, ni siquiera te conozco!” Le aseguré que no había problema y que lo más probable era que nunca volveríamos a hablar, pero esperaba haberla ayudado. Poco después pude conectarme con la persona con quien quise hablar. Yo no fui entrenado en eso. ¡Fue totalmente el Espíritu Santo!
Creeme, si uno abre su corazón para ser un embajador del Señor, ¡Él te dará lo que necesitas!
Ya estamos a mitad de año. Puede ser un buen momento para preguntarle al Señor qué quiere que hagas. Y luego, ¡prepárate! Puede ser que le tengas que pedir que acorte la lista.
