Well, here we are. The first week of Advent. I feel as though the years go by too quickly the older I get, yet each Advent humbly reminds me that I am still a child. In fact, I very much wanted to be the child depicted in the first reading. I yearned for the peace and hope of unity, when “the cow and the bear are neighbors and together their young shall rest”. It all sounds like such a relief from our fears and the horrors that sometimes happen. To know that we are in God’s hands and completely and utterly safe is so comforting.
As I begin this Advent season, I am reminded once again of how the Lord offers that safety to each one of us as long as we put complete trust in him. Which sounds kind of crazy to any of us who have been hurt by others (trust me, I get it) but we cannot put human limits on the Lord because he is so much better and greater than we could ever fathom.
It also reminds me that this reading is a prophecy, not just a nice story. Phase 1 is complete and we are living the reality that Jesus Christ is our Savior. We live in the reality that Jesus will come again and bring complete peace to the world. So I ask today that you meditate on the first reading and identify what pulls at your heart. Which part of the passage makes you wish it were already true? Then pray for it to become a reality in your life. Whatever it is, the Lord is already prepared to offer it to you. You just have to ask.
Ya llegamos a la primera semana de Adviento. Siento que los años pasan demasiado rápido a medida que voy envejeciendo, pero cada Adviento me recuerda humildemente que todavía soy una niña. De hecho, tenía muchas ganas de ser el niño representado en la primera lectura. Anhelé la paz y la esperanza de la unidad, cuando “La vaca pastará con la osa y sus crías vivirán juntas”. Todo suena como un gran alivio de nuestros miedos y los horrores que a veces suceden. Saber que estamos en las manos de Dios y completamente seguros es muy reconfortante.
Al comenzar esta temporada de Adviento, recuerdo una vez más cómo el Señor ofrece esa seguridad a cada uno de nosotros, siempre y cuando tengamos plena confianza en Él. Lo que suena un poco loco para cualquiera de nosotros que haya sido lastimado por otros (créame, lo entiendo), pero no podemos poner límites humanos al Señor porque Él es mucho mejor y más grande de lo que jamás podríamos imaginar.
También me recuerda que esta lectura es una profecía, no solo una bonita historia. La Fase 1 está completa y estamos viviendo la realidad de que Jesucristo es nuestro Salvador. Vivimos en la realidad de que Jesús vendrá de nuevo y traerá la paz completa al mundo. Así que hoy te pido que medites en la primera lectura e identifiques lo que te toca al corazón. ¿Qué parte del pasaje te hace desear que ya fuera cierto? Luego ore para que se convierta en una realidad en su vida. Sea lo que sea, el Señor ya está preparado para ofrecértela. Sólo tienes que pedírselo.
