Happy feast of St. Pius X! 

“Where is the road that leads to Jesus Christ? It is before our eyes: It is the Church. It is our duty to recall to everyone, great and small, the absolute necessity we are under to have recourse to this Church in order to work out our eternal salvation” – St. Pius X

In today’s Gospel Jesus answers the question “What good must I do to gain eternal life?” I’m sure many of us ask that question in prayer often. Is the good that we are doing enough to merit eternal life with our Heavenly Father? It seems to me that Jesus is telling us that if we wish to have eternal life with Him, we must go beyond following the 10 Commandments, which is in itself good. We must also be willing to sacrifice. Jesus tells the young man to sell all he has and to give it to the poor, a great sacrifice for the young man who had a lot of possessions. 

Jesus’ call to follow Him is not meant to be easy. Discipleship requires the sacrifice of our will to the will of God. Perhaps he will ask us to do difficult things like give up all our possessions. When we submit our will to that of the Father’s, the good that we seek to do becomes easier because our desires are rightly ordered. That is, when our primary longing is life with God rather than the accumulation of worldly things (power, money, position, fame, etc.), the worldly things don’t seem as appealing. 

May we continually strive to unite our wills with the Father’s will so that we might rejoice in eternal salvation and life with Him. 

Lord, teach us goodness, discipline, and knowledge. St. Pius X, pray for us!

¡Feliz fiesta de San Pío X!

“¿Dónde está el camino que conduce a Jesucristo? Está ante nuestros ojos: es la Iglesia. Es nuestro deber recordar a todos, grandes y pequeños, la absoluta necesidad que tenemos de recurrir a esta Iglesia para obrar nuestra salvación eterna” – San Pío X

En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús responde a la pregunta “¿Qué debo hacer de bueno para alcanzar la vida eterna?” Estoy seguro de que muchos de nosotros hacemos esa pregunta en la oración con frecuencia. ¿Es suficiente el bien que estamos haciendo para merecer la vida eterna con nuestro Padre Celestial? Me parece que Jesús nos está diciendo que si deseamos tener vida eterna con Él, debemos ir más allá de seguir los 10 Mandamientos. También debemos estar dispuestos a sacrificarnos. Jesús le dice al joven que venda todo lo que tiene y se lo dé a los pobres, un gran sacrificio para el joven que tenía muchas posesiones.

El llamado de Jesús a seguirlo no debe ser fácil. El discipulado requiere el sacrificio de nuestra voluntad a la voluntad de Dios. Quizás nos pida que hagamos cosas difíciles como renunciar a todas nuestras posesiones. Cuando sometemos nuestra voluntad a la del Padre, el bien que buscamos se hace más fácil porque nuestros deseos están bien ordenados. Es decir, cuando nuestro anhelo principal es la vida con Dios en lugar de la acumulación de cosas mundanas (poder, dinero, posición, fama, etc.), las cosas mundanas no parecen tan atractivas.

Esforcémonos continuamente por unir nuestras voluntades con la voluntad del Padre para que podamos regocijarnos en la salvación eterna y la vida con Él.

Señor, enséñanos la bondad, la disciplina y el conocimiento. ¡San Pío X, ruega por nosotros!
